The discussion of the "gift of Aaron" change from the rod reference, makes me wonder if it might make sense -- at least for the D&C sections -- to add a new section to the commentary pages on textual history. BYU Studies recently put out Robert J. Woodworth's massive disseration "Historical Development of the Doctrine and Covenants" on CD, and it provides a detailed textual history for every section of the D&C. All of this information could be transfered into the commentary without violating copyright laws (facts as opposed to expressions are not copyrightable). It could be useful. --Nathan Oman 17:35, 20 June 2007 (CEST)

I love the idea and would be happy to work on extracting and uploading. Can you send me the text from the CD by e-mail? If not I suppose I can go buy one--:) The only concern I have is how we would handle edits to this going forward. Anyone have any suggestions? My concern is that as people learn more about the history, the fact may need to be changed. What criteria do we make for editing this in the future? --Matthew Faulconer 06:30, 21 June 2007 (CEST)

I suspect that this is less of an issue that you might assume, as I don't think that there is much debate about the textual history of most sections of the D&C, although I could be wrong. BTW, Woodworth's dissertation costs about $20 on CD. I might be able to post it behind a password protection on my W&M website and then provide those with passwords who will be using it only for the cite. I think that this would be roughly equivalent of buying a reference copy for an academic project rather than publishing or copying, and wouldn't run afould of copyright laws. --Nathan Oman 14:55, 21 June 2007 (CEST)

OK. No need to post for me. I just went ahead and ordered it as I figured that would be easier for all around. I won't worry about how we will handle edits. We'll see if it is an issue when we get there. --Matthew Faulconer 06:37, 22 June 2007 (CEST)
