Questions

Verse 1

  • What is the difference between being the "chief judge" and being the "governor".
  • What is "the land" that Lachoneus was governor over? Zarahemla? What area is covered in this "land"?

Verse 2

  • Why would Nephi leave the land of Zarahemla? How does this compare to the disappearance of his grandfather (Alma II)?
  • Why are all the plates being kept by the religious leaders, rather than the political leaders?
  • What were "all those things which had been kept sacred"? How were they kept, and for what purpose?

Verse 3

  • Why wouldn't Nephi tell anyone where he was going?

Verse 4

  • The people saw many signs before the day and night and day of light. Shouldn't the previous signs be enough to convert those people? Why or why not?

Verse 5

  • Why would there be some question about the timing of Samuel's prophecy? Was there some ambiguity in the wording of his prophecy? What kind of calendar were the Nephites using to calculate the passage of time and the fulfillment of prophecy?
