- The Greek word used for "man" in these verses is anthropos, which can refer to a man or a woman. The Greek word adelphoi, translated as "brethren" in verse 1, usually means "brothers" but sometimes means "brothers and sisters."
Exegesis
- Paul makes clear in this section that living the Christian life is not merely an individual endeavor. We have a collective responsiblity to bear each others' burdens and to help restore those who have sinned. But when helping others, we should not do so in a spirit of arrogance, or we can find ourselves falling into sin.
