Questions[edit]
Alma 30:2[edit]
- Why was fasting and prayer necessary to the establishment of peace?
I am going to answer this questing with a question. If people really understood why fasting and prayer was needed for the establishment of peace, wouldn't the world be a better place? The problem is that people don't really believe in fasting and prayer, therefore, how would they believe that it could create peace in their everyday lives? It is kind of a difficult situation because only the true and faithful will actually believe that the Lord can help in our everyday lives so that we can be united brothers and sisters in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The people who actually believe in this and pray and ask the Lord to help, are usually the people who are already trying to do what is right, following the commandments that God has given us, and establishing peace as best as they know how. It is ironic how this works. We need more people to believe that God is in our everyday lives, that he is helping us to create a kind of peace that can only come through Him. A peace that will give us comfort in no other way that we can feel it. Why is it so hard for people to let the Lord help them establish a peace within themselves, because that is where it actually starts. Peace starts with ourselves. Peace starts with fasting and prayer and letting the Lord into our lives.

- How does the Nephite understanding of the Law of Moses differ from that which you find in the Old Testament?
The Nephites lived the higher law. It's that plain and simple. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth was what the people in the time of Moses lived by. The Nephites followed a law that we now know as the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The knowledge of this has evolved today into what we know as the ten commandments. Ten rules that the Lord promised us, if we abide by them, that we will be able to return home to live with Him again someday. That is why He gave us ten things to do. They are things that we should be doing anyway, but again, people are blind and can't see that He is only trying to bring peace into our lives. Can't we give back to Him and follow His ways? Can't we return a favor to Him? He has improved the guidelines of the church into greater depth as the years have gone on and times have gotten harder with more temptations and wickedness. He makes these guidelines, or commandments, for a reason. He loves us. He wants to help us.

- How do all things denote that there is a God?
Korihor asked Alma to have the Lord show Him a sign that He is a living God. That He exists and that he has knowledge of him and the rest of the world. I love how Alma answered his question. He didn't ask the Lord to show him a sign at first, but instead he told Korihor that everything in the world denotes that there is a God. Everything that he sees, hears, knows of, or understands is a sign that there is a God. This is so true. Everything arounds us was created by God, with careful thought and with a plan. How can people not understand that God created everything around us? The earth was a gift from Him- a place where His children could go to so that they could prove themselves worthy to return back home to live with Him again. How lucky are we to have that blessing.
Alma 30:48-50[edit]
- Do we really need a sign to believe in God?
After Alma gave Korihor another chance to accept and believe in God, he again denied Him. He said that he did not deny that there wasn't a God, but he didn't believe that there is a God. First of all, how can you not deny something, but not believe. If you don't believe, then you obviously have to deny it. It isn't a matter of facts. It is a matter of faith through the help of the Holy Ghost. Alma finally gave Korihor a sign, a sign that he wasn't expecting. Korihor became dumb. He couldn't speak or talk. Not everyone gets such strong signs. The Lord doesn't want us to increase our testimony through signs; He wants us to increase our testimony through faith. It doesn't take a lot to have faith. Start with something small. Like the feeling you get after singing a hymn or hearing someone bear their testimony that God lives. If you have a desire to believe, God will grant unto you the blessing to believe, and the faith you need to have the blessing of eternal life. He wants us with Him for eternity; He will do anything to help us to have that blessing come true. All we have to do is ask. He is waiting for us to open the door and let Him in.

How come so many people never accept the Gospel? This question can be answered in so many ways. I think that the biggest reason people don't come to the Lord and accept His gospel is because people don't want to change. It is so hard for them to turn their lives around and totally have new rules and covenants with the Lord that they never had before. The Lord doesn't give us commandments because He doesn't want us to have fun or be happy. He does it BECAUSE he wants us to be happy. He has set out guidelines so that we can be with Him again. Most people hate to change. They're so used to living life the way they always have. How can we help them change? What can we do to make them have the blessings that come from living gospel principles and recieving the comforting spirit from the Holy Ghost? These are good questions. I think the only way we can fully help is to lead by example. Be a friend. Be a good friend.

What is worse? A person who never accepts the gospel, or someone who has lived the gospel and then fallen away? There is no real easy answer to this question. We are not the judges of what is going to happen. But it is a good question to think about. Both of them are obviously not good. Both decisions wouldn't get us to the celestial kingdom, the highest kingdom of glory that the Lord has created. So it doesn't really matter. But I think that a person who has lived their gospel their whole life and then fell away is worse then someone who never accepts it at all. The person who has lived it has felt the spirit of the Lord, and has had a testimony of Him and His teachings. He knows that God lives and that there is life after death. He knows that if he lives his life righteously, he will one day be with our Lord again. On the other hand, the person who just never accepted the gospel hasn't felt the spirit and hasn't had a testimony of the true and living gospel. He doesn't know what he is missing, and therefore has an easier time not accepting the truth. However, they're both bad situations. They will not be able to be with their families forever. They won't be able to share the blessings with them that come from eternal life.
