One of the two witnesses named David?[edit]

Someone I was talking to the other day thought they heard that (at least) one of these two witnesses is supposed to be named David. Has anyone ever heard anything like this? Just curious (we were talking about Elder Bednar). --RobertC 08:23, 30 Dec 2006 (UTC)

I was taught this growing up, but would have to look up where that came from. Here's what Mormonwiki has to say: "A new leader named David (a descendant of the ancient King David) is to become a great leader in Israel. The Prophet Joseph Smith, said: “… the throne and kingdom of David is to be taken from him and will be given to another by the name of David in the last days, raised up out of his lineage.” (DHC, vol. 6, p. 253.) Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Hosea and Zechariah also prophesy of this event." --Rob Fergus 21:53, 30 Dec 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for the reference Rob. I think that Joseph Smith statement is likely the source of this notion. --RobertC 03:42, 31 Dec 2006 (UTC)
This is also connected with the "mighty and strong one" prophecy of D&C 65 or so. Joseph Smith seems to have taught that this David to be born was his own son David, unborn when he died. Oddly, when David went to Utah as an RLDS missionary, he learned the "truth" of polygamy and his father and slipped into insanity. There is something curious at work there.... --Joe Spencer 23:57, 31 Dec 2006 (UTC)
