I'm still unsure of the best way to reference works. I checked this Wildberger volume out of the library and will likely post several notes from it. Any suggestions on how to reference what material I take from this book?? --RobertC 19:01, 19 Sep 2006 (UTC)
- Matthew will probably have a better answer on how to reference the book. I just wanted to say that I'm jealous that you have that library right there. I've gawked at that commentary on amazon.com for a while, wishing I could get it. Let me know how good it is, and it might push me over the top on it. By the way, Robert, my copy of Gesenius came, and I think the paperback is worth getting (it is 24.95 on the cover, but I think I paid $17 for it on abebooks.com). It doesn't seem to be missing anything the other editions might have that would be overly vital. --Joe Spencer 14:19, 20 Sep 2006 (UTC)
- The sheer size of Wildberger is its greatest asset. To give you a sense of it's emphasis and composition, there are 12.5 pages written on Isa 28:1-6. Of these 13 pages, 1 page is a bibliography, 3.5 pages are textual/translation notes (which are very good, indicating Qumranic, LXX and other textual and translation variants), 1 page is on form and meter, 3 pages on setting (a lot of redaction-type analysis here which I tend to be less interested in...), and 5 pages of verse-by-verse commentary (this is the best stuff IMHO, if all 13 pages on this section were this kind of commentary I'd recommend the book w/o hesitation...), and 1 page under the heading "purpose and thrust" (which is also quite good, gives an overall synopsis and discussion about the passage). Based on this commentary of this first pericope I'm personally a bit lukewarm (although I'm even more disappointed with the Anchor Bible and Word Biblical Commentary commentaries simply b/c they are much more skimpy on Isa 28...). I'll give you an update when I read the second pericope (28:7-13). --RobertC 19:50, 20 Sep 2006 (UTC)
- Joe, I got two other Wilderberger volumes (chapters 1-12 and 13-27, in addition to the 28-39 volume I have for several months) through inter-library loan (only until the end of the month). I'm planning to post some of his thoughts regarding Isa 6 (again, I'm not super-impressed with his insights or anything, but there's a lot of good info...). If there are specific passages or questions you have about the book, feel free to ask. Unfortunately, this is looking to be a very busy month for me, so I might not have a lot of time to read and post from these books.... --RobertC 20:28, 3 Oct 2006 (UTC)
