Gods of Creation[edit]

Brigham Young taught that the three gods of creation (Elohim, Jehovah, and Michael) worked together to create the world. However, it would seem that while they worked together, they may not have been strictly equal in authority, with the Father directing the Son, and the Son directing Michael. Could it be that these three gods represent different levels of authority and exaltation? If so, is there anything in the ordinances of the Church that might lead us to better understand these different levels of exaltation? If, as Joseph Smith taught, we are to become gods (cf. D&C 132:19-20) by degrees, climbing a latter step by step so to speak (cf King Follett Discourse), might these three levels of exaltation refer to stages that we are to pass through in our eternal progression? I don't want to go too far beyond the scriptures here into Space Doctrine, but in light of recent discussions here about priesthoods as relationships with God mediated and symbolized by ordinances, it makes me wonder if the LDS ordinances don't point us towards a much fuller view of these relationships than we find written in the scriptures, and how much more we might learn by reading the temple ordinances and other LDS ordinances back into the narratives and teachings of the scriptures.--Rob Fergus 14:59, 16 Nov 2006 (UTC)
