Verse 21:2: Remnant scattered[edit]

Is where the recently controversial (DNA testing) claim about the offspring of the Lamanites being the Native Americans comes from? Is this what the verse is getting at, or something completely different? --RobertC 01:59, 5 Oct 2006 (UTC)

Verse 21:4: Covenant of the Father[edit]

In OT terms, I would tend to think of this more in terms of the Davidic Covenant although it seems a case could be made from the PoGP and D&C that this is part of the Abrahamic covenant. My sense is that this is a difficult OT notion, how the Davidic Covenant seemed not to be fulfilled. From this perspective, this passage seems particularly significant—Christ is explaining how all of these covenants are being worked out (which also leads me to believe that Jacob 5 is very important for understanding 1 Ne 10 and Ezek 37, assuming Nephi also was aware of this Zenos's allegory...).

Another reason I'm looking at this chapter right now is b/c I think the joining together of Judah and Joseph in Ezekiel 37 parallels the discussion of the New Jerusalem in this chapter (viz. v. 23). It seems the New Jerusalem (if established in the Americas as I've been led to believe) can (should?) be viewed as a joining together of Ephraim (Gentiles) and Joseph (remnant of Lamanites). A loosely related question I have is whether D&C 133:21 is referring to a restored Jerusalem in the Old World (cf. Ether 13:5) or the New Jerusalem in the New World? --RobertC 02:36, 5 Oct 2006 (UTC)

Verses 22:1-5[edit]

I removed the question asking if Isa 49:21 suggests that Christ is the desolate. I removed the question because these verses address "the desolate." Given the surrounding context it didn't make sense to me that these verses would be addressing Christ. Further I didn't think Isa 49:21 suggested that Christ was the desolate. --Matthew Faulconer 13:39, 10 Dec 2005 (UTC)
