Lexical notes

Verse 6

  • Pure and delightsome: The 1830 version of the Book of Mormon reads "white and delightsome" which has been the source of some controversy regrading charges of racism. However, Joseph Smith himself changed the translation to "pure and delightsome" in 1840 because he was concerned that modern readers would misinterpret this passage as a reference to skin color rather than righteousness. However, the 1840 edition was not used in most subsequent printings of the Book of Mormon, so the change wasn't effectively implemented until the 1981 edition of the Book of Mormon.
