Exegesis
=Verse 1: Two
In verse 1 is the first occurrence of the word two. This word appears 7 times in the first chapter of Ruth. Many times, the inclusion of the word two seems unnecessary or superfluous in terms of relating the plot of the story, but the word may be included to develop an important theme of the book of Ruth regarding how two people should act toward each other. For a more in depth analysis of this point, see the Anchor Bible comment section for this verse.
See Discussion page for symbolism of the Book of Ruth.
