Verse 2

  • Double for all her sins. The "double portion" concept is often thought of in terms of blessings (see Deut 21:15-17 where the first-born is to get a double portion of father's possessions—cf. 2 Kgs 2:9). However, receiving double compensation for wrongs—or, on the flip-side, paying double—is frequently mentioned (cf. Ex 22:4, 7, 9; Job 11:6; Isa 61:7; Jer 16:18; Jer 17:18; Rev 18:6).
