Exegesis
Verses 8-10
The Word Biblical Commentary notes on this passage the following: "Yahweh’s command not to eat, drink or return by the same road certainly seems arbitrary and irrational, but that is precisely the point: the man of God’s complete subjection to the divine purpose can only be tested through laying on him conditions that may seem unreasonable and burdensome to him."
