Thoughts to actions[edit]

Something of importance to remember for the phrase "As a man Thinketh in his heart so is he" is this quote

"Sow a thought, reap an action
Sow a action, reap a habit
Sow a habit, reap a character
Sow a character, reap your destiny"

Thoughts come from our surroundings what we fill our life with, true thoughts can come from other sources such as the spirit revealing to us what we should do, or inspirations on how to go about things just as the Lord said "Ponder the path of thy feet and thy ways shall be established" stating that if we think things through the spirit will lead us. A man who spends his idle moments reading the scriptures or keeping is brain involved with good and uplifting thinks will in return think of these things there for influencing his character. But if a man who watches things that imply sexual content and drug content then that man allows these thoughts to come into his mind than they have more chance to stay and thus become character for that man as well. President Packer uses a great explanation for this. Our mind is as a play good characters come in and other characters sneak in for their moment of spotlight. Here is the choice or free agency if you will. Will we as the ones working the spotlight (meaning that which is in focus and thoughts are concentrated on) Will we turn the spotlight to these characters of dark character, or will we keep them on the good characters? If the spotlight is turned and focused on those characters which are evil than you notice that the other characters eventually begin to fade and loose there focus. The good thoughts will eventually be noting but a memory if that. Stand in holy places as a whole other meaning when you look at it this way. Is it any wonder we are to fill our mind with these good thoughts therefore giving them the spotlight and eventually watching the bad thoughts disappear into the dark parts of the stage. A man who fills is spotlight with scriptures, and ponders over the meaning of the scriptures will put emphasis on the good in life and good characters will be dominant therefore producing a good show. Also with going to church, temple, etc. We fill our mind with good then we will produce good and good will become a part of us. Fill your mind with darkness and darkness will become who you are.
