Hi Hsprunt, I have always had the same question you did when reading this section. Why does Lehi keep mentioning this again and again to his son that he was born in the wilderness, in the days of his affliction. Do you have any ideas about what you think the answer is?
Do others have an idea here?

- Hi Matthew-thanks for responding....
- As i was thinking about it, I made the comparison between Lehi's reminder to Joseph and the Prophets' reminders to all of us. We are also constantly being reminded that we are a choice generation and that we have been born in a very critical time in history when it will become very hard for us to keep our faith. We have also been born in a time of great affliction, but this doesn't mean that we lose our potential to reach the Celestial Kingdom. We too can obtain this blessing and "prosper in the land", just as Joseph is promised by Lehi, through keeping the commandments and following those who we know will lead us to Him,just as Joseph is also counseled to follow Nephi.--Hsprunt 23:18, 13 Oct 2005
- Interesting question. I read this as Lehi telling his son "there were a lot of sacrifices made to bring you into this world, so don't squander your life." Even raising a kid n a 20th century home with all the conveniences of modern life, I often feel that my son better not waste his life b/c we've gone through so much trouble changing his diapers, soothing him when he's screaming, comforting him in the middle of the night, etc. So I'd guess these type of feelings would be much more intense regarding a kid born in the wilderness.... --RobertC 15:21, 15 Oct 2005 (CEST)
