Exegesis

In verse 2 the Lord tells Edward Partridge that he will lay his hand on Edward by the hand of Sidney Rigdon to give Edward the gift of the Holy Ghost. What does it mean that the Lord will lay his hand on Edward by the hand of Sidney? This isn't the usual language we use when we describe ordinances involving laying on hands, but the point that the Lord seems to be making here is that when others act in the Lord's name with the proper authority, it is like the Lord himself is performing the ordinance.
