Exegesis

One God or Many Gods

In verse 28, the Lord indicates that in these Latter-days it will be revealed "whether there be one God or many gods". That revelation was delivered, at least in part, in verse 32, where we are introduced to the concept of a "Council of the Eternal God of all other gods". Joseph Smith expounded on this concept at length in later sermons, revealing some of the most profound teachings on this subject in the last few months of his life during a "meeting in the Grove east of the Temple on June 16, 1844" (see Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 370).
