Matthew, not sure I'm seeing the "difficulty" you are referring to in vs. 3? Rob Fergus 16:49, 9 Aug 2005 (CEST)

I think Matthew "mistyped" here. The first visit -- for the plates -- was difficult. The brothers murmurred, saying that it was a hard thing to do. The second visit -- for the girls -- was much easier. Laman and Lemuel wanted girls! --LoneWriter

I did mistype. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully the revision is better. I think that going to find wives was likely more motivating than bringing back the plates, but I think there may be other reasons as well that make this trip easier. I haven't thought through it completely but this mission may have seemed a lot less dangerous. --Matthew Faulconer 16:20, 10 Aug 2005 (CEST)

Verses 4&5

Is this the proper progression of events (or a correct reading)? Nephi and his brothers arrive at Ishmael's house ⇒ they gain favor in his sight ⇒ they speak the words of the Lord ⇒ the Lord softens Ishmael's heart ⇒ they all journey in the wilderness.

If this is the sequence, why did they need to gain favor in Ishmael's sight to speak the words of the Lord? Why not begin by speaking the words of the Lord? One example of beginning with the words of the Lord may be Nephi in Helaman 7 which may have led to gaining favor in the sight of some of the people Hel 8:10.
