Political nonsense[edit]

Joe, I keep getting distracted from other projects by your new very interesting posts—at this rate I'll never make any progress on any outstanding projects (it's much more fun sitting back reading your commentary than doing the more tedious work of fleshing out these outstanding projects in greater detail)!

I'm hoping you'll elaborate a bit regarding the "political nonsense" that you posted. I can only vaguely guess at what you mean here. But I think this is a very interesting framework to think about the book of Mosiah. In particular, you've got me wondering about the possible connections between the establishment of the church by Alma and the eventual establishment of the system of judges. It seems to me that the "laboring with their own hands for their support" in Mosiah 18:24 prefigures the establishment of the judges and echoes King Benjamin's discussion of laboring with his own hands. In fact, could we argue that King Benjamin's statement in this regard is the seed whose eventual fruit was the disintegration of kingship? A careful comparison/contrast study of King Benjamin's speech with the establishment of judges would be very interesting (surely others have written on this too...). --RobertC 15:31, 15 Sep 2006 (UTC)
