The purpose of this site

To provide a free resource of commentary on Mormon scripture--the Standard Works for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Standard Works for the Church are: The Old Testament, The New Testament, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price.

Please help

Help is needed to create this free resource. We are just getting started so it is an exciting time to dig in and help. There are several ways you can help out. The most important of course is to create content for the site. Because this site is a wiki, its easy for anyone to add content--keep reading.

For additional ways to help, see the how to help page.

What is a wiki?

This site is a wiki. That means that anyone can write or edit the content on this site. The most famous wiki of all is the free encyclopedia Wikipedia. If you want to know more about wikis check out this article on the subject.

Getting started

1) Take a quick read of site policies, 2) use the search box (see below) to go to some scripture, and 3) add and revise content by clicking the edit link. 4) Click "Show preview" and make sure you did what you intended. 5) Don't forget to "Save page" when you are done.

Finding scriptures

In the future a table of contents will be added. In the meantime you can find the place to input commentary for any scripture by simply typing the reference in the search box without the colon. For now use only the standard LDS abbreviations found in the footnotes of the LDS versions of the scriptures.

Examples: Formats that work

  • 1 Ne 3 4
  • 1 Ne 3

Examples: Formats that don't yet work

  • 1 Ne 3:4
  • First Nephi 3 4
  • 1 Nephi 3 4

Help

Check out the feedback page. See also

  • Help:Editing--Basic help taken mostly from Wikipedia
  • Wikipedia's help pages are a great source since they use the same platform we do on this site
  • MediaWiki User's Guide--An exhaustive help guide to all things media-wiki (the platform this site is built on)
  • The "Show preview" button on the edit pages is a great way to learn by trying. Showing preview is better than saving for 2 reasons. 1) You can catch errors before others see them. 2) The errors you catch haven't been saved to the history (as they would be if you had saved rather than using preview). This is nice because it means that the site doesn't need to keep track of all the intermediate small changes in the history that show your progress in learning wiki markup but aren't probably that interesting to anyone. If you check out the history for early pages from this site you may notice that our admin hadn't learned this point when he first started getting the site together :)
  • Our Sandbox--If the "Show preview" button doesn't meet your needs, this is a page that you can play around with.
