I'd like help in creating a license for this site. I'm not happy with the creative commons licenses or the gnu free documentation license. More on that below. Maybe we will go with one of those after you help me understand why my concerns are unfounded.

* The license gives broad access to others to modify the content without being too picky about citing the author. Since anyone can edit anyone else's work figuring out which part are whose is not trivial. Further, at some point in the future the site may decide to limit the amount of history. * I don't really understand how a wiki can use this. Clearly they do. And it seems to work. But to me the requirement to give attribution seems onerous for a wiki since an article is edited by so many people. If the requirement is fulfilled by history, this seems to me to require the wiki site to '''always''' keep '''all''' history. * I have the same concern here about the requirements to give attribution. Of course, you can choose not to require attribution. I don't like the fact though that the creative commons is making the licenses they provide that don't require attribution hard to find. Do they not want them to be used?

==Why I started this site==
There are several reasons that came together at once.
* [http://www.wikipedia.org Wikipedia] was an inspiration. When I first learned about Wikipedia I figured that a site where anyone can edit anything would lead to total chaos. But as I played around with Wikipedia I found rather orderly encyclopedic articles. I was amazed at what Wikipedia had to offer. Over time though I quickly realized that though I was enamored with the concept of a Wiki, I wasn't as interested in the content it provides--a bunch of encyclopedia articles.
* I thought a lot about (and read some about) the difference between blogs and wikis. The only blogs I read were LDS blogs. These were often interesting but genereally left me feeling dissatisfied. In response I wanted to create a LDS-focused wiki that is:
** less focused on people's opinions
** more focused on the gospel
** less about day-to-day chit-chat
** more about creating something lasting
** less a tool to aid in analyzing the Church (e.g. leadership, members, beliefs, politics, habits.)
** more a tool to aid in understanding the scriptures
** less introspective
** less reflective
** less controversial
** less of what this page is all about
** more of what [[1 Ne 11]] is all about
* I was heavily influence by my father's thought questions he sent out as part of preparation for teaching his sunday school class. (See below.)

* For teaching me over the years to focus on what scripture says
* For doing a mountain of preparation for his Sunday School lessons. The thought questions he sent out on a weekly basis were the basis for making me think something like this could work.
